Overview:

Cyprus , Aphrodite’s island, believed to be where the goddess first came to earth is ‘where the gods go on holiday’.  We will be staying at the Hotel Kissos in Paphos just 300m from the beach.  Cyprus, the dividing line between Europe and the orient, has so much to offer and walking is the best way to get to know the central and high Troodos Mountains, the unspoilt Akamas coastal peninsula, the unique deep limestone Avagas Gorge plus richly historic sites such as the Tomb of Kings, religious sites with 12^th C frescoes and that’s not to mention the great weather!

Great Walking:

There are some delightful walking areas in Cyprus and the Akamas Peninsula and the Troodos mountains are the coup de grâce. We will be choosing the walks that get the best from both these National Park areas.  On the Akamas Peninsula we get to explore this superb coastal section by utilizing the rocky hiking trails such as the Aphrodite and the Adonis Trails.  Here we see amazing natural sculptures formed by coastal erosion and the weathered limestone cliffs, inlets and spurs which make up enchanting sea view vistas.  However, as this is an unspoilt area it is also a haven for the botanist and ornithologist alike.  Next to the Troodos Mountains , where we take the best walks picked from the many beautifully laid trails through tapestries such as the Cedar Forests of the Artemis and the Atalante Trails on our way to the highest point on the Island Mount Olympus at 6,400 ft.  Depending on our itinerary we may also get a chance to walk the Madhari ridge, visit the Caledonian Falls and visit some very interesting historical sites.  

Remember with two walks to choose from every day, you can either take it easy, walking 7-9 miles with around 1500ft of ascent, or push yourself a little, doing 10 miles with around 3000ft ascent.

The Hotel:

The Kissos Hotel is situated 3 minutes drive from Paphos city centre, close to the port, 300 metres from the beach ( Cyprus has 49 of the cleanest Blue Flag beaches) and 20 minutes drive from the International Airport . The hotel’s extensive facilities include a quality restaurant serving local and International cuisine, a fine cocktail bar, and a pool bar serving snacks, refreshing drinks, ice cream, sweets or coffee throughout the day.  It is ideal for those who choose to lounge around the outdoor (fresh water) pool in the warm Mediterranean sun. All rooms are en-suite with a bath or shower, satellite TV, radio, air-conditioning, direct dial telephone and some have a sea view.  Health and Fitness features include Indoor swimming pool, sauna, massage, aerobics, Jacuzzi and gym. Sports facilities include Mini Golf, Table Tennis, Billiards, Tennis court.  

Paphos was the former capital of Cyprus .  The Cypriot lifestyle is most evident in the evening when the wine flows and everyone relaxes in the many bars and restaurants. With such a wealth of history and life, we will join the locals and on three evenings we will dine in local restaurants and sample a real taste of the island.  We will also have a day off from walking during the week enabling us to do our sight seeing etc!
