We stay in a fine Victorian house with fine views over the sea. Situated on top of the west cliff, it is only a short walk into the centre of the bustling coastal town, complete with fishing fleet and local shops and pubs. The majority of the rooms are en-suite, many having lovely sea views. The hotel has a great reputation for home cooked food, and the chef delights in preparing traditional English food as well as Mediterranean and Mexican specialities.

The typical walking programme:  The area is perfect for all levels and ability of walkers, with pleasant gentle strolls, and more challenging walks over the moors. To allow you to explore this region to the maximum during your visit WalkWise UK would suggest that you include the following areas into your itinerary:

To allow you to choose a walk that suits you best, WalkWise UK will provide a minimum of two walks on each day, led by professional and knowledgeable walking guides. On both days there will be a hard walk of 10-12 miles and an easier walk of 6-8 miles with less ascent.  We can offer a full range of grades at this centre please check that the grades offered are suitable for your group.

The area around the house is ideal for walking and some of the walks will start from the house. However, on one of the days the walks we will start another location, e.g. Goathland, to allow the walkers to explore different terrain.

Around the hotel: For the non-walker, the guesthouse is within the interesting town of Whitby. There are also a myriad of picturesque coastal and rural villages to explore e.g. Staithes and Robin Hoods Bay and the delightful ‘Heartbeat’ villages of Grosmont and Goathland. In the evening you can relax in the comfortable lounges of the hotel or wander into the town to explore the local pubs.
