A great chance to explore the Western Lake District famed for England's deepest lake, smallest church, highest mountain and the 'Biggest Liar in the World' . Those who know the area, delight in getting away from the crowds and it is often referred to as ‘The Untouched’ lakes.  The Eskdale valley itself has not suffered through commercial activity and the traditional hamlet of Boot and the village of Eskdale Green remain much as they have always been.

This is an area that is perfect for all levels and abilities of walkers.  Pleasant gentle strolls along the tumbling River Esk can be combined with trips along the L'aal Ratty the narrow gauge railway which runs the length of the valley.  The tumbling waterfalls of Birker Force and Stanley Ghyll falls offer interesting access points on to the open moorlands that provide the back drop to this lovely valley.

You will rarely encounter such solitude, anywhere else in England, as when tackling the peaks of this remote and enchanting region.  There  is no shortage of excellent high level walks.  The high level walker will be delighted with interesting routes over Crinkle Crags, Harter Fell, Hard Knott and Illgill Head as well as some challenging scrambling through Lord's Rake on Scafell.
