The bustling village of Grasmere shares its name with the picture postcard lake to create a truly serene landscape.  Indeed, it was this celebrated scenery where the romantic poet William Wordsworth caught his first glimpses of true Lakeland inspiring his famous works!  His house, Dove Cottage, is now a museum dedicated to his life and work and open to the public.

The walking area is steeped in history, legend and folklore.  The high level walks cover such famous areas as the majestic Langdale Pikes, , the mighty Helvellyn, Sergeant Man and the Fairfield Horseshoe (scene of an annual Fell Race). For the not so athletic, there are a range of superb low and middle level walks to inspire anyone. Amongst these, rate the 'Lion and the Lamb', Loughrigg Fell and Silver How and the beautiful lakes of Grasmere and Rydal.
