Keswick, Grasmere , Borrowdale or Eskdale all provide ideal centres to further explore the Lakes. The area has a myriad of walks to suit all abilities, from gentle strolls by the lake to the classic summits of the higher Fells of Great Gable or Scafell.

There is no more varied yet compact landscape anywhere. It is little wonder that the Lake District was one of the first British National Parks, for this fairytale land touches all who visit. It contains the highest mountains, the deepest lakes, the most peaceful valleys in England and some of the finest open views in Europe.

It is a land steeped in legend with bronze age settlements and neolithic stone henges; a land steeped in history for the Romans, Celts and Norseman all left their mark; a land steeped in culture which inspired the great romantic poets, such as William Wordsworth and Samuel Taylor Coleridge.

Here the trout stocked lakes glisten in the hazy sunshine, flowering saxifrages hug the tumbling waterfalls, red deer roam freely as the Golden Eagles proudly patrol the skies overhead.

This is an enchanting land for all walkers who have, in Wordsworth’s words,

an eye to perceive and a heart to enjoy
