Stretching from the soaring cliffs above Robin Hood's Bay to the escarpments that form the Table Hills overlooking the Vale of York, the North Yorkshire Moors are an enticing prospect.  The area has something to offer everyone, whether you want to relax by the streams in the 'cream tea' villages of  Thornton-le-dale and Hutton-le-Hole, visit the historic Abbeys of Rievaulx or Whitby, explore the hidden Valleys in search of the daffodils of Farndale or the illusive Rosedale Abbey, or wander through the narrow streets of the fishing villages of Staithes and Runswick.

There is a network of over 1,200 miles of ancient trods and footpaths that criss-cross this region.  This ensures that there is a vast assortment of routes available to suit every desire.  There are the upland paths through the purple haze of the heather moors that typify this region.  On a bright sunny day, as the horizon shimmers in the heat haze, it is almost romantic!  But if the mist drops it can be a nightmare.    Thankfully  in times of old, our forefathers added a number of stone crosses to act as way marks.  Many wanderer has felt enormous relief  with a surprise encounter with 'Fat Betty' or 'Ralph Junior'...
