Gritstone Edges
Beautifully situated at
the head of the Hope Valley in the Peak District National Park, Castleton
shelters beneath the Norman ruin of Peveril Castle (English Heritage) and is
overlooked by Mam Tor, topped by a Bronze and Iron Age hillfort and known as the
`shivering mountain' because of its instability.
Walking Win Hill
Gentle descents
The first day's walks go
through the beautiful dark peak, with its grit stone edges, open moorland
plateaus and colourful valleys. The next day we do the famous circular
walk from Castleton around Mamtor Ridge.
