Overview:

Building on the success of their Alpine walking holidays WalkWise have responded with the venue of Schuttdorf close to the scintillating Zell am See in the majestic Pinzgau valley.  This picture-postcard resort with medieval centre nestles not only amongst fine mountains but also lies directly on the shores of the stunning Zeller lake. It has the added advantage of being close to the Hohe Tauern mountain range and park and Austria ’s highest mountain the magnificent Grossglockner at 12,460ft. Combining this scenic destination with a four star hotel makes for the perfect synergy. The Latini hotel offers superb rooms and cuisine with relaxation through its fantastic spa complex.

Superb Walking:

Zell am See is one of Austria ’s most loved ‘lakes and mountains’ resorts and lies in the heart of some of the most varied and interesting walking.  It is easy to see why it is so attractive when you walk by the side of the lake on the romantic promenade which leads you through pastures and woods on the hillsides where the musical cowbells serenade you.  In turn this network of paths ascend on the middle and high mountains where they finish with a back drop of glistening glaciers.  Wherever you choose to walk you will be impressed by the very essence of Austria . To the east Hundstein is a delight with excellent views looking back down over the sparkling Zeller lake in the lush Pinzgau valley. West of Zell the heavenly heights of the Schmittenhöhe mountain are easily accessible by using the Zeller Gondola and allows walkers of all abilities to enjoy high level walking.  To the south the Alpine reservoirs and glaciers of the Kaprun valley are a real treat with unbeatable panoramas, emerald green glacier lakes and fascinating rock formations. Another must is the seemingly impassable road on which we journey to the Grossglockner , only made possible by a remarkable feat of engineering.  This lofty mountain plateau complete with massive glacier and formidable mountain peaks enables us all to view true mountainous Alpine scenery.  Take all this and add fine mountain huts serving drinks, cakes and pancakes to die for and the wonderful company of your fellow walkers and you will be booking a walking holiday fit for a König (King).

Remember, with two walks to choose from every day, you can either take it easy, walking 7-9 miles with up to 1500ft of ascent, or push yourself a little, doing 10-12 miles with around 3000ft ascent (some hard walks require a good head for heights).  For more information about the walking or anything to do with this holiday please e-mail andrew@walkwise.co.uk

The Hotel:

The Latini 4 star hotel situated in the Zell am See district of Schuttdorf offers us the best of both worlds. Only about 15 minutes from the lake it is both luxurious and quieter than the main centre of Zell am See however, when we seek the bright lights we can hop on the local train and it is just two stops or 5 minutes to the centre. The cuisine is something to behold and regardless whether you are sampling the regional Pinzgau dishes or international specialties, in the restaurant, on the terrace, in the beer garden or the garden lawn, you will love the food. A special delight of the 4* Latini ‘wellness’ or spa centre which can be very welcome after a tough days walking in the mountains.   The wellness centre comprises of a sauna, vitarium, steam bath with fresh air zone and an indoor swimming pool.  If you really want to push the boat out, there is a beauty area with cosmetic treatment or a massage to make feel good and a normal solarium.  Plus there is even the highlight of an Aqualux, a new dimension to sun bathing. A special experience for your skin, like at the Dead Sea : you bathe in original salts. At the same time, the integrated tanning solarium will give you a new brown tint. Not to mention the Techno Gym equipment if you have any energy left.
