We'll you could be forgiven from reading the news, that the lakes was in the depths of a drought! There is a hose pipe ban and drought orders in effect!!! So most of us packed sun hats sun tan lotion, shorts, sun hats and extra water bottles! So imagine our surprise as we drove into the valley with dark heavy clouds gathering and humidity levels so high even my hair was beginning to go frizzy!! But it was still early and rain through the night rarely lasts into the next day... and the bbc weatherman siad it would improve the next day!!!
So as the forecast was to improve, we set off for a long valley walk hoping for a significant improvement in the weather before we went up the hill, we meandered through the flood waters, seeking safe crossing places before finally ascending up towards Threshwaite mouth! The head of the valley looked like the head of the milford pass in monsoon season, hundreds of silver streams tumbling down the hillsides and beneath one of those streams was our path-hence an impromptue ghyll scramble up the hillside! At th ecol it got worse 70miles an hour wids balsted us with a continuous water cannon, which literally blasted us up to the top. Somewhat damped by the experience we put the wind in our back and sailed over high street before cascading down stream back to the valley, probably 20kg heavier than when we started with all the water in our bags!!!!! And that as they say is why there was no photos from the weekend!!!
Then again sunday was soo much nicer, at least on the lower walk where we managed a cruiseon the lake, a few beers in a pub garden and a sunny stroll up a couple of hilocks late in the afternoon, but that just doesnt sound half as exciting!!! Congratulations to all of you who survived your near drowning!!!
